Arecibo
Transmission / Response GIF Animation
August 26, 2001
Within
the last two weeks, an amazing new formation manifested itself in the
most famous hot spot for crop circle formations in the world. However,
these formations have become so complex in recent years that calling
them circles is no longer appropriate. Now they're more like glyphs
and if you've seen images of these formations, you know why.
These formations
are believed to be a response to a message sent by the Arecibo radio
telescope back in November of 1974, and so far I see no reason to believe
that they are not. I know there are hard core skeptics out there who
will say this rather large formation was stomped out with boards and
ropes by a couple of college pranksters, but this thing is huge. Given
the size of the formation, I'd rather say I don't know how it appeared
rather than say some college kids did it overnight. The latter is more
ridiculous than any other explanation I can fathom.
What you
see below is an animated image of first the transmission, slowly tranposed
with the response. It is 267k in size so it may take a minute or two
to load if you're on a dialup. The image was created with blocks 15x15
pixels in size on a 29 x 76 grid, or 435 x 1140 pixels, then reduced
by 50% to save loading time. The copyright info was added afterward
as the 21 frames of the animation were being created.
I had
a detailed model of the outgoing transmission to use as a guide for
creating the beginning of the animation, but the ending, as it transposes
into the response was a bit trickier since I was dealing with the light
and shadow of the formation. I did the best I could with this, but if
you are familiar with these formations and you see any errors in the
interpretation of the binary data of the response, such as in the planetary
population binary, please contact me at damaeus@web-recon.com.
